2022 Spyder F3 starting issue

My brother's got a 2022 Can Am Spyder F3 that's developed a weird starting issue, and we're hoping someone here has some insights.

When he goes to start it up, the starter makes this strange, kind of loose sounding noise

And then, once it does fire up, the check engine light comes on and stays on until the Spyder warms up to operating temperature, and then it just goes out on its own. It's totally bizarre!

Has anyone else had this happen with their Spyder F3? If so, what did you do to resolve it?

Also, could a battery that's on its way out cause this kind of weird behavior? Any thoughts would be super helpful!

Yeah, a weak battery can definitely cause both those symptoms and given F3 is picky about voltage, low cranking power can mess with the ECU and throw temporary codes, test the battery first or try a known good one before digging deeper

That 'loose' sound on startup is a bit concerning. If it's not the battery, it could be the starter, bendix gear or the starter solenoid itself. The gear might not be engaging properly with the flywheel, and the solenoid might be sticking.
This is something that would need a closer look by a mechanic, as a failing starter can sometimes do more damage down the line. I'd definitely get that checked out
